COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2022 MASCOT COMPETITION

Friday, July 24th, 2020

The organisers of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have launched a UK-wide search to find a ‘Mascot Maker’.

Children aged from five to 15 are being challenged to design the official mascot for the Games – while the winner will also bag family tickets to the opening ceremony in two years’ time.

Designs can be drawings, paintings or collages and the deadline for entries is Wednesday 5 August.

To wow the judges, children are being asked to design a mascot which ‘reflects the identity, heritage, and culture of the West Midlands, and embodies everything the region stands for: youthfulness, diversity, dynamism and creativity.’

More information and full details on how to enter, as well as some inspiration, is available by visiting: https://www.birmingham2022.com/Mascot

The Birmingham Commonwealth Games are due to be held from 28 July to 8 August 2022.

Thank you

ORGANISED LESSONS OUTDOORS COMING SOON

Friday, July 17th, 2020

Since the announcement by the Welsh Government, we are now actively looking for a safe outdoor venue as a temporary location for some modified sessions until we can resume normal lessons in the gym. AS you may know we are at the ‘PREPARE’ stage and we are very busy cleaning and preparing the gymnastic academy in readiness for a full return to gym. There will obviously be more stringent hygiene and distancing measures put into place as well as a modified gymnastic lesson programme for all our members. In the meantime, we are organising outdoor lessons and following all the guidelines and measures issued by Welsh Gymnastics.

Have a great weekend everyone, we will keep you updated on the outdoor lessons.

BRITISH GYMNASTIC LETTER – EXTRACT

We are experiencing unprecedented circumstances this year, the effects of which are taking its toll on our community and on our sport. We have received questions from clubs about membership, so we wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the next membership year.

Membership discount for participants

We’ve reached out to clubs on an individual basis, and through our Club Stakeholder Advisory Group, to understand the challenges you’re facing. We want to support participants getting back to your clubs and so for the first month of membership renewals in October, and for new members who register at this time, we will be subsidising the annual membership fee for bronze and silver members. This means:

Bronze members – £15 for 2020/21 membership reduced from £19 in 2019/20
Bronze competitive members – £20 for 2020/21 membership reduced from £25 in 2019/20
Silver members – £35 in 2020/21 membership reduced from £43 in 2019/20

Alongside this we are encouraging participants who are struggling financially due to the impact of the coronavirus to apply for funding through the British Gymnastics Foundation Hardship Programme. Applications are now open and will remain open throughout July and August.

To help you plan we’ll be providing further details on membership in the coming weeks including how to complete your renewal.
