2020 – MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORS CNGA

Sunday, December 20th, 2020

Firstly we wish all our members a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.

2020 has been an extremely challenging year, and we are extremely grateful for the support of our voluntary coaches, leaders, parents during covid support , Welsh Gymnastics, and Sport Wales during this exceptional time in our history. We returned back to gym in August 2020 with renewed determination to be even more successful.   We completely revamped our admin with electronic registrations and a more efficient communication system, and although the training has been ‘stop start’ since September with isolations from school and lockdowns over October half term, we have been able maintain some consistency with gymnastic training and  zoom sessions.

LYNNE MORGAN – NEWPORT GIRLS GYMNASTIC CLUB

2020 was also a very sad year for us.  We lost a very dear friend Lynne Morgan who recently passed away.  Lynne coached gymnastics at Newport Girls Gym Club in the Leisure Centre.  Lynne was a special friend to us at CNGA and we have fond memories of Lynne who was always such a lovely, warm,  kind and generous person.   We were all saddened by the news this month and extend our deepest condolences to Lynne’s grand daughter Paige and everyone at Newport Girls Gymnastic Club.

NEW COACHING MEMBER

This year we welcomed Ella and Maria Gaynor to the Academy.  Ella has been awarded a coaching scholarship through Welsh Gymnastics and will be coaching two groups at CNGA in preparation for her qualification.  The two groups are working hard with Ella and both coach and gymnasts are looking forward to returning to training.

HOSTING WELSH SQUAD GYMNASTICS

During the local area lockdown we were able to host training sessions for the women’s artistic National Coach and small cluster of welsh squad gymnasts who reside in Newport.

NEW PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP

In January 2021, there will be a new exciting parent and toddler class at CNGA.  This will be called  ‘Cartwheelers School of Gymnastics’ and run by Megan Wheeler – a qualified gymnastic coach.  There has already been numerous enquiries to join this new venture which will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings at the Academy. Anyone interested in attending with their pre-school children please contact us and we will pass you on to Megan.

NEW SUNDAY TUMBLING CLASS

CNGA will be starting a new tumbling class on Sunday mornings starting when the lockdown ends in January/February 2021.  The class will be run by Maria Gaynor.  Those interested in joining the class, contact us at the gym for more information.

CHRISTMAS SHOWS 2020

This month Tina put together the Christmas dance routine as best as possible for all the different ability groups, and considering all the children that have had to isolate from school and gym at the last minute the routines were excellent – well done to all the gymnasts who were able to take part this year in their Christmas outfit.    We hope that Christmas 2021 will be even better!

BE ACTIVE FUND AWARD

This month CNGA were awarded a Grant from Sport Wales to install heating. This work is now complete and the Academy can now enjoy training sessions in a warm environment during the winter months.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR MESSAGE

We wish all our members and everyone involved in gymnastics a peaceful, happy family Christmas and our very best wishes for 2021.  We look forward to seeing you all at the gym when the lockdown has ended.
