CNGA GYMNASTS TURN ZINC AND COPPER INTO GOLD!

Well done to an amazing effort by 15 gymnasts who represented the Academy at the new Classic Challenge Cup Competition last weekend.  The competition started with the ‘Copper’ level gymnasts on the Friday 22nd October at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Two gymnasts performed amazing routines achieving medal and ribbon placements in the individual and all round event.  Well done to Poppy Wayman achieving silver on floor, gold on vault and silver overall.  Well done to Keeley Williams who joined our Academy recently and achieved 6th place ribbon on vault.  Also competing on the Friday evening were a strong team of 5 gymnasts in the Zinc competition level,  12 and over age category.  All five gymnasts performed fantastic gymnastic routines on all apparatus achieving multiple gold, silver, bronze, 4th and 5th ribbon places on apparatus.  Well done to Eva Lewis, Alys Davy, Eve Peart, Mia Bush and Caitlin Murray for an outstanding team effort.  Eva Lewis won the overall gold medal position in the competition.

On Sunday 24th October 6 gymnasts represented the Academy in the 10/11 age group category at Sophia Gardens.  Two teams of three gymnasts performed brilliant routines on the floor, bars, vault.  There were a couple of errors on the balance beam, but the gymnasts showed their discipline and focus and continued positively with the competition.  This competition was extremely tough and with two of the team out with COVID, they managed to keep going and perform their routines well.  Jasmine Evans won 5th place on the floor overall and her team of 3 achieved 6th team place.  Evie Lewis, a newcomer to the team, placed 2nd on the vault and her team of 3 achieved 4th team place in the overall competition.

Team Sparkle – Jasmine Evans, Poppy Price, Annabelle Thomas (6th place team)

Team Pink: Evie Lewis, Ava Poulsom, Ayla Clothier (4th place team)

This was the first competition for all the gymnasts in 18 months since the pandemic struck, affecting all of us in the community.  The girls have made an excellent ‘come-back’ and the Academy is now busily preparing for the next event which will be hosted by us – the South East Wales Gymspire competition in November and the Christmas show in December.  It is full steam ahead !!

Well done to all the gymnasts, coaches and our judge  Abbie Moore, without which it would not be possible to enter the event.  GO CNGA !!
