Congratulations to all 52 gymnasts who represented CNGA at the South East Wales Preliminary Championships last weekend. All gymnasts performed their floor and vault skills to the best of their ability, with some fantastic individual and team results across all the age groups.

Unfortunately Willow Foster was unwell and could not attend this competition. Alys Miles performed her first rotation at the event, but had to withdraw unwell. We wish both gymnasts a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them both back at the gym.

City of Newport Gymnastic Academy gymnast Jemima Taylor will represent Great Britain at the Junior World Gymnastic Championships in Antalya Turkey at the end of March.

Jemima who will be 14 in March, started her gymnastic journey as a beginner at our Academy and has trained with the National Coaches since the age of 7. We are ‘over the moon’ and so pleased with this amazing news from Welsh Gymnastics.

Jemima will compete at the British Championships in Liverpool in two weeks time before embarking on her journey to Turkey.

We are so excited and every member of CNGA wish Jemima, her National Coach Tracey Skirton-Davies and all the Great Britain squad every success at the Championships

City of Newport Gymnasts did amazing at the South East Grades 18th and 19th February 2023.  The following results include

LEAH TREMAINE CLUB GRADE 6 – Passed with Distinction!

Leah performed amazing routines on all 5 apparatus achieving a fantastic distinction score overall.  Leah placed 4th on the Balance Beam with an impressive 12.9 score.  An amazing achievement for this young gymnast’s first South East Grades competition – Well done Leah !!

In the Regional 4 category – 2 gymnasts represented the Academy – Sophie Matthews and Lolita Klusevich.  Both girls did amazing.  Sophia performed excellent routines, placing 5th on the uneven bars and  placing 6th overall – just narrowly missing out on a finalist place at the end of April. Lolita placed 10th overall and secured 1st place on Vault and 2nd place on the Balance Beam. Excellent results from both girls – well done Sophia and Lolita!!

In the Regional 3 competition – four gymnasts represented the Academy.  All girls successfully passed their grading!

Alys Davy secured 3rd place on Vault and 5th place on floor with amazing routines.  Poppy Price scored consistently throughout and passed her Grading.  Maddy Johnson secured 5th place on uneven bars, 6th place on Balance beam and 2nd place on range and conditioning with overall position of 7th. an excellent all round effort from Maddy.

Moridiat Olagunju performed exceptional routines on all apparatus securing 1st place on Vault with an impressive 13.5 score (the highest score of the competition), 6th place on uneven bars, 2nd place on floor and 1st place on range and conditioning, Overall Moridiat placed 2nd in the competition and will compete at the finals in April.

In the Regional Grade 2 competition Eve Peart and Keeley Williams both represented CNGA and performed excellent routines.  Eve placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on balance beam, 6th on floor, and 3rd on range and conditioning. Overall Eve placed 5th in the competition and secured a finalist place in April.  Keeley placed 1st on vault, 6th on uneven bars, 1st on floor, and 4th on range and conditioning. Keeley placed 2nd overall in the competition and also secured a place in the finals in April.  Well done Eve and Keeley!!
