AMAZING WEEKEND OF PRELIMS AT CNGA

Well done to all 38 Gymnasts who represented CNGA at last weekend’s South East Wales Prelims competition. The competition was a huge success and we are immensely proud of all the children who took part.

The photos below say it all! Lots of happy gymnasts receiving their participation certificate, with some receiving ribbons, medals and trophies and with a chance to have a photo with the new Welsh Gymnastics mascot FLEUR! congratulations to everyone who took part.

Wednesday 8th April 4.30pm to 7.30pm all artistic competition squad

Wednesday 8th April 4.30pm to 7.30pm all PRELIM competition gymnasts (working with our newly qualified coaching team)

Friday 10th April 4.30pm to 7.30pm – artistic competition squad gymnasts only

Saturday 11th April and Sunday 12th April – CNGA Host the South East Wales Preliminary Championships 2026

Monday 13th April – gymnastic timetable resumes as normal.

FANTASTIC GRADE RESULTS FOR CNGA GYMNASTS

Monday, March 30th, 2026

The Academy hosted a marathon weekend of Grades from both the South Central and South East Wales Regions last weekend. 9 gymnasts represented City of Newport and every gymnast passed their grading.

Preparation Grade 1 – Rebeca Mucenic competed in her first artistic competition and did some amazing routines on the Floor, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, Vault and Ranges. Rebeca achieved a Working Above result in her grade of which she can be justly proud. Rebeca placed 3rd on vault and 5th on ranges.

Preparation Grade 2 – Isla Bastow, Arden Williams, Primrose Richards, Evie Traves and Lettie Daw-Evans all represented CNGA at this grade and all five gymnasts achieved a ‘Working Above’ result with their amazing individual routines. Evie Traves placed 5th on ranges, 3rd on floor and GOLD….YES GOLD on Bars. Primrose achieved 4th place on vault, 6th place on Bars and 5th place on floor – well done to all the girls who competed at this level in the competition !!

Development Grade 1 – Evie Thorpe represented CNGA at this grade and achieved an excellent ‘Working Above’ result. Evie placed 2nd on vault, 3rd on Floor, 4th on Ranges and GOLD….YES GOLD on the Balance Beam – well done Evie Thorpe. OVERALL RESULT – Silver medal position !!

Development Grade 2 – Avalyn Halford represented CNGA at this grade and achieved an excellent ‘Working Beyond’ result. Avalyn secured 3rd on Floor, 6th on vault, GOLD…YES GOLD on balance beam and OVERALL RESULT – silver medal position !!

Development Grade 4 – Keeley Williams represented CNGA at this high level grade competition and secured 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars and 3rd on ranges. Well done Keeley !!

EASTER PARADE AT CNGA

All gymnasts of the Academy are welcome to wear their Easter Bonnet and join the parade next week at the gym during their class. There will be a prize for third, second and first place and a complimentary prize for all those who bring their Easter Bonnet and join in the fun! Sedric is already in the mood below!

MEDAL MAN OF THE MOMENT

Sunday, March 1st, 2026

Rich Halford completed his first half marathon today in a time of 1 hour 45 minutes! Amazing – well done Rich. The route took Rich around the outskirts of Newport to Caerleon and back along the river Usk through Newport to the Southern Distributor Road Bridge and back along the main road to the City Centre.

Rich pictured below at the end of the half marathon, with his medal and a look of deep joy and relief will now focus on his next half marathon in Bristol on 10th May and then Swansea half marathon on 7th June raising much needed funds for new equipment at our gym.

There is a Go Fund Me link on our club facebook page for anyone wishing to make a contribution through this link, and there will also be a donation bucket on the Reception desk at the gym from tomorrow until Rich’s final half marathon in Swansea (all contributions are welcome no matter how small).

Well done again Rich for doing your bit to help raise funds for our Gymnastic Academy and thanks to everyone who came to the race to support him along today – and finally a special message from Sedric!

RICH HALFORD – WHAT A FUND RAISING STAR!

One of our parents – Rich Halford will be running three half marathons this year – that’s right, three half marathons! to raise funds for City of Newport Gymnastic Academy!!

We are delighted that Rich has chosen to support our Academy and raise funds for much needed equipment this year. Rich will start his first campaign this year by running the Newport Half Marathon this SUNDAY 1st MARCH starting at 9am at the Riverfront We all wish him the best of luck – GO RICH GO!! Anyone wishing to support Rich at the starting point and finishing point are welcome to wave, shout and cheer for Rich and CNGA!

Rich will also run the Swansea half marathon and Bristol half marathon for CNGA this year. What an incredible fund raiser!

CNGA GYMNASTS SHINE AT GYMSPIRE FINALS IN LLANELLI

Seven gymnasts from CNGA represented South East Wales at the Gymspire finals in Llanelli last weekend.

Milly Brown, the youngest of our gymnasts was part of the 8 in year phase 2 team. Milly was fantastic at the finals, not only representing the South East team but also our Academy. Her routines were amazing, with beautiful posture and presentation throughout. As a result, Milly placed Silver medal on the trampette, and team GOLD!! Wow – we are so proud of you Milly – Well done!

Melanie Dirwai, who competed in the 10 in year category phase 1 also had an amazing day. Melanie achieved GOLD on the trampette – that’s right ‘GOLD!!’ on the trampette, silver medal on the floor and 6th place on the vault. In the overall competition Melanie came 2nd (Silver medal position). An incredible personal achievement -#proud coaches, # proud Academy. Melanie’s team also won team….GOLD!!! Well done Melanie and the South East Team 10 in the year!

Lena Serkowiak competed in the 11 to 12 years phase two category. Lena performed her routines beautifully, and although she didn’t quite manage a top 6 placement her team won BRONZE position at the competition – well done Lena !! we are so proud of you.

Lowri Love and Charlotte Bolt competed in the 13 years plus phase 1 event and completed all their routines safely. They didn’t quite manage a top 6 individual placement and their team placed FOURTH at the competition. Well done Lowri and Charlotte, we are all so proud of both your achievements by representing South East Wales at the finals this year.

Binta Chatty and Olivia Bonnici both competed in the 13 years plus phase two competition. Both girls did amazing routines on the floor, vault and trampette. Their team won BRONZE medal overall. Binta achieved an individual 6th place overall in her category – well done Binta and well done Olivia!!! We are very proud of you both at CNGA!

All the girls will now be focussing on the Christmas show performance and the floor and vault competition on 6th and 7th December.

A huge thank you to Kirby, Lacey and Abbie G who were the South East Wales coaches on the weekend and looked after our gymnasts from CNGA. Thank you so much !!

GOOD LUCK TO GYMSPIRE FINALISTS THIS WEEKEND

Seven gymnasts from CNGA will represent South East Wales at the Gymspire finals in Llanelli this weekend.

Milly Brown will represent the South East 8 in year Team at the finals on Saturday 1st November. Milly has been practicing her routines to the best of her ability at the gym up until yesterday. Good Luck Milly at the finals!

Melanie Dirwai will represent the South East 10 in year Team at the Finals on Sunday 2nd November. Melanie has also been practicing and perfecting her routines for the finals. Good luck Melanie!

Lena Serkowiak will represent the South East 11 to 12 years phase 2 team at the finals on Sunday 2nd November. Lena has been performing her routines in the gym to an excellent standard and we wish her all the best this Sunday.

Lowri Love and Charlotte Bolt will represent the South East Team in the 13 years plus phase 1 category. We wish them the best of luck at the finals on Sunday 2nd November.

Olivia Bonnici and Binta Chatty will both represent South East Wales in the 13 years plus phase 2 category on Sunday 2nd November. We wish them both the best of luck in the finals.

All seven girls have been practicing their routines well leading up to the finals this Sunday. This will be their first outing away from CNGA as competitors and we hope they thoroughly enjoy the experience of competing in a different gym. Good luck girls!!
